Construction of RCB -Perincherikadavu

As per. G. O. (Rt) No. 859/2017/ WRD dated 17-10-17, Administrative sanction have been accorded for the work. This Project is to construct a Regulator-cum-Bridge across Kuttiady river at Perincherykadavu. The bridge proposed shall connect Vatakara and Koyilandy Taluks of Kozhikode district. The site is located across Kuttiady River about 2 km downstream of Gulikapuzha bridge. The site can be approached through Thiruvallur- Meenpalam- Gulikapuzha road. The latitude and longitude of the site at right bank, in Velom Panchayath is N 110 35’ 38” E 750 41’49”. The left bank of the river at the project site is Cheruvannur panchayath with latitude and longitude of N110 35’ 35” E 750 41’ 52”. This project aims at preventing saline water intrusion from Arabian sea and thereby to protect the agriculture land- mainly paddy cultivation scattered in various panchayaths including Thulattunada wetland and Avalapandi. The pumping stations of KWA are situated near Gulikapuzha bridge, and at Koorankottu for supplying drinking water purpose. These are in the upstream of the proposed Regulator Cum Bridge. So the project can be made use of for providing drinking water without salinity to Vatakara Municipality and adjoining Panchayaths. The scheme is also proposed to supply Irrigation water to the aforementioned areas where cultivation of agricultural crops such as paddy, coconut, areacanut etc are the main livelihood of the villagers. The proposed RCB will become an important connectivity between Vatakara and Koyilandy Taluks. The water spread with an average width of 100m and length 6km will provide ample scope for boating, fishing, water-sports etc.
